Abstract:

Prophet of POU1F1 (PROP1) plays direct or indirect important roles in the morphogenesis of pituitary gonadotropes as well as lactotropes, somatotropes and caudomedial thyrotropes. It also controls the expression of growth hormone, prolactin and thyrotropin subunits through regulatory PIT1 factor. These hormones have important influences on production traits in most animal species including the goat. Therefore, PROP1 gene could be considered as a candidate gene for milk production. The objective of this study was to determine the polymorphism of PROP1 gene and its association with milk yield and growth traits in Mahabadi goats. We investigated the mutation (GenBank accession number: AY533708.1) within exon 2 of PROP1 gene by using the Hin6I PCR-RFLP method. This polymorphism alters the amino acid at codon 79 from alanine to valine in PROP1 protein. Only two genotypes  CC and CT (frequencies 0.9 and 0.1 respectively) were observed. Polymorphism of PROP1-Hin6I locus showed significant relationship with milk production (P < 0.01), milk fat percentage (P < 0.05), milk protein percentage (P < 0.05), somatic cell count (P < 0.05) and daily weight gain (P < 0.05). Therefore, PROP1-Hin6I locus could be considered as a molecular marker for milk production and milk composition traits in Mahabadi goats.

Investigation of Polymorphism in Exon II of MHC-DRB1 Gene Using PCR-RFLP Technique and Its Association with Growth Traits in Adani Goat

In the present study, blood samples were collected from 97 Adani goat from Bushehr province in order to identify the polymorphism in the exon II region of MHC-DRB1 gene (Major Histocompatibility Complex) and also, its association with growth traits (birth weight and 3 months weight). Genomic DNA was extracted from blood samples. A 279-bp fragment was amplified using polymerase chain reaction (P...

Single nucleotide polymorphism of the lactoferrin gene and its association with milk production and reproduction traits in Iranian Holstein cattle

Bovine lactoferrin (LTF) is a member of the transferrin family of iron-binding proteins. This protein is present in a wide variety of biological fluids and shows important physiological functions in body. In this study, 404 blood samples were collected from Holstein dairy farms in Iran. A 301 bp fragment of intron 6 in bovine LTF gene was amplified and the animals were genotyped using polymeras...

Study of Placental Lactogen Gene Polymorphism and Its Association With Milk Production Traits in The Holstein Cows

Placental Lactogen is a polypeptide hormone that is produced by the Placenta, also known as chorionic somatomammotropin hormone. It has both Growth Hormone and Prolactin activities on growth, lactation, and luteal steroid production. The objective of this study was to investigate the bovine Placental Lactogen (bPL) gene polymorphism of Holstein cows in Razavi Khorasan province. Blood samples we...

Polymorphism of the b-Lactoglobulin Gene and Its Association with Milk Production Traits in Iranian Najdi Cattle

The objective of this study was to determine the polymorphism of bovine β-lactoglobulin (β-LG) gene and its association with milk production traits in Iranian Najdi cattle. Blood samples were collected from 80 Najdi cattle from the Najdi cattle breeding station located in Shoshtar, Khuzestan. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) techniqus were used...
